repeat in 2010?

From reports I have received if the month in Detroit, the best site available, lessons I think should have been learned if there is to be a repeat next August.

1. support from other than the host center in USBC's largest association has to offer good bottom line reasons to support and ideas to gain that support begin far earlier.

2. plans on how exempt players can spend their time when not bowling in August and during the months when they would have been bowling should be far better.

3. If there are many dark lanes at Thunderbird Lanes in August there should be better plans in place to utilize them.

Some ideas I have and would like to see added to by center owner/managers and others:

1. where there are dark lanes, at every center in the Detroit association willing to particpate, during prime times this Fall promote one or two pair doubles leagues where exempt players partner with participants whose weekly fee pays for an August pro-am entry which is held twice, once at the host center with exempt players and at Thunderbird.
a. based on league numbers supply exempt players and scores from their qualifying in August with a blind drawing for partners for each game that are posted prior to the start of each game with an agreed upon handicap percentage added to the spread that is the same as used by the participants.
b. enlist local association officers to help with the promotion.

2. Do the same thing for Spring leagues to promote lineage for the centers and pro-am entries
with the Fall/Winter and Spring leagues combined for a house pro-am with prize money in August at times exempt players can join in and again with all entrants at Thunderbird.

3. Invite owner/managers of supporting centers and supportive associaton officers to attend tv finals with vip seating and plan a dinner for the exempt players and supporters to follow the final taping.

4. Recruit say six exempt players and senior 'name' players with driving distance of each other and centers where similar Fall/Spring pro-am leagues can be promoted for the six to bowl in and maybe hold a six game round robin of match play to determine how the pool of money for them will be split.

a. as an example, if I was to promote this program at the two centers in the Villages where I live I would, if available, have Jason Couch, Norm Duke, Tommy Jones, Walter Ray Williams, Dale Eagle and Dave Soutar in my promotional material.

5. All of the pro-am leagues would include top of the line bowling balls supplied at reduced cost by the supporters of PBA, their products promoted along with the pro-am programs.

6. In August and exhibitions booked at centers during the September/October/November opportunity, I would include other opportunities to use the exempt and Senior 'name' player participants in planned programs such as promotions to reach those not presently bowling to meet the stars and get some basic coaching help that is followed up when they leave; ditto for existing and the promotion of additions to junior programs as one example...A celebrity pro-am to stroke corporate sponsors, the media, help gain new corporate sponsors, add to supporting centers, include local sports/entertainment celebrities as another.

Posting WSOB Results Before Air Date

I'm sure there are people who don't want to know the results of the PBA tournament before it airs on ESPN in the upcoming future. Similiar with all other taped delayed shows - USBC did this fine for the Womens Open, letting people know results were available if they wanted to know, but not making it front page news (You had to click the story to find out who won, so you wouldn't spoil yourself if you were waiting for the telecast). With this I think USBC should really consider doing the same thing for the PBA tournaments from the WSOB that are being tape delayed. Personally I already knew, but this may be very upsetting to those waiting for the telecast.

Wow the scores are high

Well so far the scores are very high. Leading avg is 252. Norm Duke starts his 2nd block with 290, 290. I am thinking the E for easy pattern is back this week. Cheetah is going to be the one pattern to watch all year.

PTQ rounds

I am just not a big fan so far of the World series of Bowling. How can you have 3 PTQ rounds back to back to back. It just seems unfair. One bowler has won 2 of the 3 PTQs bowled. I want this to work for the PBA, but I am a bit worried that it might not get the people turned on to this great sport, and turn off the ones who do love it now.

Dream Telecasts 2009-2010 Season

Well, here we are--Belmonte is officially beginning his first season as an exempt player on tour. My dream telecast is a two-hander extravaganza with Osku, Belmo and Cassidy all making the same show. I'm tempted to say that would be the highest-rated telecast in PBA history. Anyone else?
