week 1 determining wins w/o handicaps

Wondering how they determine wins and loses for the first week since nobody has handicaps and also everyone has a handicap in the 2nd week depending on the average of week one. So we dont use last season average its a fresh season and week 1 determines the handicaps. We were playing a bye team. We got scoes of 503, 549, and 592 without handicaps. please advise thanks

PBAX League Formats

Looking for ideas on league formats. In our PBAX league, we have been doing 2 points/game and 4 points for series against the team you are bowling that night. I would like to propose a new format that encompasses the entire league to keep the standings interesting, reward the better teams, and most importantly- discourage average control! I like the current format, but would like to add to it in someway. We could use the Peterson Point System for each game and total or just total in addition to the current format. I also considered some type of "bonus point" system for a certain number of the top teams (also could be both game and total or just games or total). Last year we had 12 teams and it looks like we may have a couple more this year. Our league meeting is next week so we will see for sure then. I thought maybe the top 5 teams up to the top half could be awarded bonus points similarly to the Peterson Point system. For example using the top 5 teams, the team with the highest game/total gets 5 bonus points and fifth gets 1 bonus point. With this system, a team could really make up some points or even lose a lot of ground in one night if they have an off night. I would like some feedback to see what other people think about this or some different ideas. I am just tired of seeing the average control when someone knows they have already won or even lost a game. Thanks for any feedback!

John Burkett

Anyone who doesn't think that bowling requires athleticism should come down to the sport league I bowl in. I was excited to see that former major league pitcher John Burkett bowls in it. I knew he was good because I had seen some TV segments about his side-interest in bowling back when he was in the league. But the guy is averaging a 214 and shot a 286 on the Chameleon a few weeks ago. The guy is just an athlete through and through. Anyone else ever see this guy bowl?
